A Chorus Line Tickets and Seating
Set on an empty Broadway stage, 17 dancers compete for eight spots on a chorus line made up of four women and four men. The director Zach and his assistant choreographer Larry put the dancers through the steps, but the audition does not end there. A Chorus Line asks each performer why they are trying out on the surface, but digs deeper asking why these performers want to be dancers in the first place.
The musical originally ran Off-Broadway in 1975 at the Public Theater, eventually transferring to the Broadway stage at Shubert Theatre. The original authorship of this musical has long been disputed. Michael Bennett (the original director) is officially given credit for some of the creative genius, but there is little doubt James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante (the book writers) were at least among the brainchildren for the musical.
A Chorus Line became an instant hit, critically and commercially. It received 12 Tony Award nominations in 1967, bringing home nine wins, including Best Musical. It also won the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Commercially, this musical sustained its run for an incredible 6,137 performances, making it the longest running musical in the history of Broadway at the time.
A Chorus Line has been surpassed by three musicals so far, but A Chorus Line tickets have been sold for several revivals throughout the world, including at the West End and on tour in Mexico twice.
