American Idiot Tickets and Seating
The musical came to fruition after reporters discovered some of the inspiration for the album American Idiot came from stage musicals like West Side Story and The Rocky Horror Show. The album followed the exploits of anti-hero Johnny, so it came as no surprise when Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day and director Michael Mayer began to discuss adapting the concept album into a musical.
American Idiot debuted at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2009. It debuted as a one-act play sung all the way through as the three high school friends each found their own paths, their own struggles, and conquered their own demons on the path to adulthood.
The musical moved from the West Coast stage to the East Coast and debuted with a preview run at the St. James Theatre. American Idiot officially debuted on April 20, 2010 to favorable reviews. It earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical and won for Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design. American Idiot tickets continue to sell as the modern punk rock musical plays on Broadway one song after another.
