Chicago - The Musical Tickets and Seating
The stage is set from the beginning as Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly each murder their lovers. Roxie murders her ex-boyfriend after a fight and Velma murders her husband and sister after finding them in bed together. The two are set for spectacular trials, and each has Billy Flynn for representation. Chicago the Musical launches into song and stylish dance sequences almost immediately. The two would-be celebrities compete for the attention of the press until in the end they are forgotten, being old news.
Chicago the Musical came to the stage as the second chance for a sensational story written by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins in 1926. The original production had a short run and even a movie adaptation by Cecil B. DeMille in 1927, but the story would be nothing but a forgotten tale until Bob Fosse’s wife told him to read the long-forgotten play. After years of trying, Fosse and a couple of producers purchased the rights to the play and began to work on a stage musical.
The Musical debuted on June 3, 1975 as Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville at the 46th Street Theatre. Two years later the production closed after a respectable 936 performances. True success came years later after a revival, a title change, and a number of changes to the show.
Now Chicago the Musical is a well-known work with famous songs like “All That Jazz”. Chicago tickets are available for productions in New York at the Ambassador Theatre and in London at the Cambridge Theatre.
