Mamma Mia! Tickets and Seating
The show began as a vague notion of an idea in 1983. Producer Judy Craymer met former ABBA band members Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson when they were working with famed lyricist Tim Rice scoring a song for the musical Chess. The musical used ABBA tune “the Winner Takes It All” and it went to be very well received. She approached them about the possibility of an entire musical built around the ABBA catalog and though they were not enthusiastic with the prospect, they did not say know.
Years later Craymer contacted Catherine Johnson and commissioned her to write a book for a musical based on the films Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell and Sympathy Seeker. The result was Mamma Mia, the story of a girl (Sophie) who wants to be walked down the aisle by her father.
The only problem is she does not know who her father is, so she finds her mother’s (Donna) diary and invites the three potential patriarchs (Sam Carmichael, Bill Austin, and Harry Bright) to the Greek Isle on which she is to wed in the hopes of finding the truth. This story is told with a light hearted sense, complete with comical emotional support from the mother’s two friends (Rosie and Tanya).
Mamma Mia is currently on stage in London at the Prince of Wales Theatre and in New York at the Winter Garden Theatre. Get your Mamma Mia tickets now to see this fan favorite in person.
