Wicked Tickets and Seating
The Apollo Victoria is no stranger to long-running productions. Starlight Express, an Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that bombed on Broadway, ran from March 27, 1984 until January 12, 2002 here on the West End. The show featured a track built into the theatre since the rock musical was accompanied by actors and actresses in roller skates, traversing the venue for 7,461 performances.
That single production made Apollo Victoria a respected West End stage. Before Starlight Express, the theater ran three short-lived revivals before the rock and roll spectacular featuring performers portraying toy trains coming to life.
Prior to its establishment as a theatrical stage, Apollo Victoria sat empty as an abandoned movie theater for six years. This art deco building, designed by Ernest Wamsley Lewis and William Edward Trent, opened on October 15, 1930 as New Victoria Cinema and remained a popular venue until the end of the 1940s when it was scheduled for demolition.
Public support saved the Apollo Victoria and the venue continued to play a combination of films, ballet, and variety shows until its latest regenesis. The Apollo Victoria has flourished in its newest role as a musical theatre venue and Wicked tickets continue to sell out every night at this Wilton Road institution.
