Murat Theatre At Old National Centre Tickets and Seating
The Murat Theatre is located within the confines of the Old National Centre at 502 N. New Jersey Street. The Old National Centre is the current name of the Shriner temple formerly known as the Murat Temple and then the Murat Centre.
The Shriners are a fraternal order dedicated to brotherly love, relief, and truth with an emphasis on fun. This makes it fitting for the Murat Theatre to be based in such a temple, built to celebrate these virtues and entertain at the same time.
The Old National Centre, or Murat Centre, was constructed in 1909 using designs heavily influenced by Islamic temples of the Middle East and in Egypt. This building exhibits that influence with a single tower in the southwest corner, stained-glass windows throughout, yellow and brown brick branding, minarets, and terra cotta trim.
The emphasis on entertainment in addition to the values of basic human decency made the 1,800-seat concert hall and the 2,500-seat performing arts theater, where Wicked the Musical will be staged, natural inclusions in the design.
In fact, Broadway has found a welcoming audience since the very early days. In these modern times, the Old National and the Murat Theatre are as likely to serve as the stage for a limited engagement of a touring Broadway production as they are to be featured as a stop for the WWE.
